Global History
World History is a course that traces, chronologically, the history of the world from prehistory to the present. Topics that are covered in this class are the pre-history to the 1600s and the Italian Renaissance. Students will examine the religious, cultural, economic and political events that shaped the ancient and classical world and relate historical data to the modern world.
United States History and Government
After a study of the development of the written and unwritten Constitution from the 1780s through the Civil War, the course focuses on the political, economic, social and cultural history of the United States from Reconstruction to the present. This course of study will provide the opportunity for students to develop critical thinking and analytic skills necessary to process and interpret the events in United States History.
Economics
The focus of this course is the structure and operation of the American economy. There is an emphasis on the open market system and the role of government in the economy. This course challenges students to become economically literate. It does this by introducing three broad sub-areas of the discipline: microeconomics, macroeconomics, and political economy.
African Studies/Latino Studies
This course explores the history of Africa, African Diasporas, and Latin America around the globe from the time of early African history to the present. The course is global in scope, focusing not only on the African diaspora communities in the Americas but also in the Caribbean, in Europe and within the continent of Africa itself. Themes include ancient civilizations, geography, resistance under slavery, African and Latin American nationalism, socialism, anti-colonialism and especially the Civil Rights Movement class.
