AP Biology Course
AP Biology is equivalent to a two-semester introductory biology course. The focus of AP Biology is to help students develop an enduring conceptual understanding of the essential knowledge components of modern biology. The focus of AP Biology is for students to gain experience in biology inquiry to better understand the world around us and how living organisms function. This course will provide students with an opportunity to gain confidence in their ability to succeed and excel in their future college science courses.
The AP Biology curriculum is centered on science practices and four big ideas that summarize the important biological principles and theories that characterize life and interactions within biological systems. Science practices are central to the study and practice of biology. The science practices that form the basis of many tasks on the AP Biology exam are: concept explanation, visual representations, questions and methods, representing and describing data, statistical tests and data analysis, and argumentation.
